The Seahawks added offensive tackle Alex Barron to the 90-man roster Tuesday, another indication that the club is concerned about the returns from injury of tackles Russell Okung and James Carpenter.

Barron was the only longtime NFL veteran invited to the past weekend's tryout camp reserved primarily for rookies. Barron spent 2011 on injured reserve with a knee problem.

The Seattle Seahawks agreed to contract terms with eight members of their 2012  draft class Monday, including defensive end Bruce Irvin, making him the initial first-round pick (15th overall) to sign.

NFL analyst Andrew Brandt reported that Irvin, from the University of West Virginia, will get $9.34 million guaranteed over four years that includes a $5 million signing bonus.

A funny thing happened at Seahawks draft headquarters in Renton Thursday afternoon.

Nothing.

When, minutes before Roger Goodell would announce it on TV, the electronic readerboard in the media workroom flashed the Seahawks selection of "Bruce Irvin, West Virginia," a hush fell over the room measured in megatons. Even the talk radio guys in the back of the room from KJR and ESPN fell silent. Momentarily.

Summing up the 10 selections (eight defensive) he made in last weekend's NFL draft, Seahawks general manager John Schneider seemed to grade his performance an "A" when he said, "We're really excited about the talent . . . I couldn't be more pleased." Not all, of course, shared Schneider's enthusiasm, and most were shocked to their socks at the selection of DL Bruce Irvin in the first round.

That's how he found Butler Community College in El Dorado, KN. He applied, was accepted and drove from Atlanta, only to find out the football team had its quota of eight out-of-state players.
