The 6-4, 220-pound Whitehurst came to the Seahawks having had just four NFL snaps and no passes thrown in a regular-season game. A product of Clemson, Whitehurst elected to sign with the Seahawks after also considering the Arizona Cardinals. Whitehurst entered the NFL as a third-round draft choice by San Diego in 2006. With San Diego, his role was to relay plays to starting quarterback Phillip Rivers. He made his first NFL start on Nov. 7, 2010, when Seahawk quarterback Matt Hasselbeck couldn’t play due to a concussion. He made his second — and final start of 2010 — against the St. Louis Rams, leading the Seahawks to a victory that clinched the NFC West title at Qwest Field.
